Gather a bunch of live flowers from your garden. Look around your neighbor's gardens if you need a better assortment. Always ask permission before taking a neighbor's flowers.
Lay out a large newspaper in an open area. Pull the petals from the flower heads and spread them out in a single layer on the newspaper.
Let the flower petals dry for 2 weeks. Any moisture left on the flower petals can cause mold.
Pick out all the brown flowers once they are dried. Some of the prettiest flowers turn brown or lose their color when they are dried. Remove these from the mix.
Place all the dried flower petals in a large plastic bowl with a lid. The potpourri is now ready to put into bowls around your home.
