Instructions

    • 1

Look for a rock that has a smooth texture. The smoother the surface of the rock, the easier it will be to paint. Scrub the rock well, and dry off.

    • 2

Cover the rock in dark green paint. Paint all sides of the rock, and allow to dry.

    • 3

Paint the stems of the pansy, in a light green color. Look closely at the way an alive pansy grows. Use a picture of real pansy leaves, to make the painting look real.

    • 4

Paint on small leaves with bumpy edges. The leaves are oval shaped, and have a small stem attaching them to the large stem.

    • 5

Continue painting leaves on as shown in the picture. After completing the one stem, repeat on all sides of the rock. It doesn't need to be completely covered, just sporadic stems on each side.

    • 6

Next choose the top of the stem to start painting the flower. Pansies come in all colors, they can be painted pink, burgundy, purple, blue, yellow or white. Here we chose purple. Pick a medium hue of purple to start. Paint the bottom petal.

    • 7

Using the same shade, paint a bow tie shape on top of the petal. Fill in with color.

    • 8

Outline the top petals in the medium hue paint. Make the shade slightly darker by mixing in a little black, and fill in the last two petals on the top.

    • 9

Lighten the paint, by adding white. Use this color to make the center of the flower. Use the tip of the brush to lightly paint three ovals, one on each of the three petals.

    • 10

Add a dot of bright yellow to the center. On the top of the yellow, paint two small white ovals. The white should sit on the top and sides of the yellow center.

Lastly, add a darker green to the leaves for dimension. Mix a dark purple and add little stripes to the center of each flower.
