How to Make Flower Arrangements for Summer

Summertime brings with it lots of bright, colorful flowers. Whether you grow them in your garden or buy them, making beautiful arrangements with summer flowers can be fun and easy. There is a wide assortment of summer flowers that work well in these arrangements. A few examples are: sunflowers, zinnias, asters, dahlias, gerbera and peonies. Whichever flowers you choose, the key to a great summertime arrangement is to keep it simple and playful.

  • Beach pails
  • Sand

      Pick out bright, colorful beach pails. Use ones that you have around the house or you can purchase them at your local variety stores.

      Place a vase in the middle of the pail. The vase should be about 1 inch higher than the pail; the top of the vase should be right above the pail or at least even with the top edge. Fill the vase about half full of water.

      Cut your flowers so that they are the right size for the pail. Hold a flower next to the pail to measure; cut shorter if needed. Vary the length of the flowers to give the arrangement a more professional look.

      Place the flowers in the vase inside the pail. Arrange as necessary. Fill the vase with more water if needed so the level is about 1 inch below the top of the vase.

      Add sand to the beach pail being careful not to get sand in the flower vase. If desired add seashells or a small toy shovel onto the sand to decorate.
