Learn to Make Dry Flower Arrangements

Flower arrangements made from dried flowers are especially attractive because of the realistic appearance and the lasting beauty. Either dry your own flowers or purchase dried flowers of your choice from craft stores, and learn the art of dried flower arranging to make beautiful and timeless arrangements for the home.
  1. Materials

    • The materials necessary to create dried flower arrangements are not extensive. Start with a container to hold the arrangement. The size and type of container will determine the style and appearance of the arrangement. Choose a vase for dried flowers on long stems to create a display that resembles a fresh flower arrangement. Choose a basket for a low arrangement with shorter flowers and more filler between the blooms. Select a bucket or other imaginative container for an informal arrangement.

Insert floral foam into the container to hold the stems of the dried flowers. Cut the foam with a utility knife to fit snugly into the container.

Use garden shears to trim the dried flowers to varying heights as you arrange them.

The only other materials necessary are the dried flowers. Select a combination of large, medium, small and filler flowers to create an attractive and interesting arrangement.

    Construct the Base

    • Construct the base of the arrangement by inserting the floral foam into the container. The foam should be wedged tightly to prevent any shifting within the container. Cut the foam to fit. If necessary, cut the foam into two pieces and insert the two pieces into the container one at a time and then wedge them together for a tight fit.

    Arrange the Flowers

    • Place all of the dried flowers you have selected for the arrangement out in front of you on a work area so that you can see them. Group the large ones together, the medium ones together, the small ones together and the filler together.

Begin the arrangement with two or three large focal dried flowers in the center of the arrangement. Trim the dried flowers as you insert them so that they are all slightly different lengths. Insert the focal flowers into the center of the floral foam.

Next select some medium-size flowers and fill them in around the focal flowers. Add small flowers next. Rotate the arrangement as you add flowers so that you are seeing its appearance from all sides. Place filler flowers in any open spaces as desired. Continue adding flowers and rotating the arrangement until you are pleased with the results.
