Glass vases often come with delivered flowers and are available in department stores. Crystal, also called lead crystal, is a heavy, expensive glass cut with facets to reflect light.
Many vases are made of ceramic, china, porcelain and stoneware. When kiln-dried and glazed, they are suitable for holding liquids.
Though metal vases can be used to hold flowers, it is best that the flowers be dried or that a glass container to hold the flowers be inserted into the metal container to prevent rust.
Some vases are made of beautifully carved wood with a plastic or glass insert.
Synthetic materials like plastic or polymers that are designed to look like ceramic or stone can hold a bouquet but may need to be weighted down with stones or marbles.
