How to Make a Lemon Centerpiece

If you're creating table decorations for a spring wedding, an afternoon tea party or a Sunday brunch, you cab design an arrangement that's both decorative and fragrant with lemons. Inexpensive, fresh lemons lend a vibrant color to centerpiece designs that also feature white flowers like daisies, orchids, lilies or gardenias and a touch of greenery like small palm fronds or bear grass. You can cut the lemons into halves or slices to reveal the eye-catching texture and tangy aroma that can bring a floral arrangement to life.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut off and discard one-half inch from each end of the lemons with a sharp knife. Cut the lemons into one-half-inch-thick slices and reserve the slices in a bowl of water in the refrigerator until you're ready to assemble the lemon centerpiece.

    • 2

Pour water inside a 6-inch-tall glass cylinder vase until the liquid is two inches from the top of the vase. Begin the floral arrangement by placing greenery such as bear grass or fern fronds in the vase, allowing some pieces to hang decoratively down the side of the vase.

    • 3

Trim the flowers you've selected for the arrangement to the desired heights with flower clippers or shears. Create a centerpiece that will look the same from every seat at the table by placing the tallest flowers in the center and arranging the other blooms at lower heights around them to produce a slightly "domed" arrangement.

    • 4

Remove the dust and debris from a 7-inch-tall cylinder vase that also measures at least two inches wider than the 6-inch vase. Use a cloth dipped in rubbing alcohol to wipe the inside and outside of the vase to clean the vase. Carefully lower the filled 6-inch-tall vase into the center of the 7-inch vase.

    • 5

Push lemon slices into the outer vase so the citrus completely fills the cylinder and conceals the inner vase and flower stems. Pour water into the outer vase until it reaches the top.

    • 6

Add a decorative touch by tying a piece of white ribbon or raffia around the top of the vase. Continue the citrus theme by placing whole lemons adorned with white ribbon or raffia bows around the base of the lemon flower arrangement.
