How to Clean Silk Flower Arrangements

Silk flower arrangements have their good and bad points. Silk flowers last longer than their real counterparts and will save you money in the long run. They can also be placed and forgotten because you don't need to worry about watering them or making sure they have adequate sunlight. The downside to these beautiful fake flower arrangements is that like everything else in your home, silk flowers gather dust and dirt. There is a natural, quick way to keep your silk flower arrangements looking as beautiful as the day you purchased them.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Place the flower arrangement you wish to clean in a plastic shopping bag.

    • 2

Pour ½ cup of rice into the plastic bag.

    • 3

Close the bag with a twist tie or tie it in a knot.

    • 4

Shake the plastic bag gently for 60 seconds. This will cause the rice to become statically charged and the dust will be attracted to the charge rather than the flower petals.

    • 5

Remove the flowers from the plastic bag and shake off any rice that might be attached to the flowers. This will also help loosen any dust left behind. Shaking the flowers will also help give them a more natural shape by fanning the petals.

    • 6

Place the flowers upright and run the back of your hand against the back of the flower petals, bulbs, and leaves to give them more of a shape.

    • 7

Bend any petals back into shape if they have become slightly warped by the rice-cleaning process.

    • 8

Perform this procedure every three to six months to keep the silk flowers looking beautiful.
