How to Refresh a Grapevine Wreath

Grapevine wreaths, if properly maintained, will provide the household with years of service. Periodic refreshing of a grapevine wreath will give the wreath a fresh look and eliminate dust that may have accumulated in the nooks and crevices of the natural, dried vine over time. A quick change of a tired ribbon can also give your grapevine wreath new life. Check your craft store for pre-made wire ribbon bows that let you simply glue them into place with no fuss. Grapevine is a great indoor-outdoor decoration that lasts for a very long time.

Instructions

    • 1

Use scissors to cut a leg from a pair of pantyhose and slide it over the hand-held hose attachment on a vacuum cleaner. Secure the pantyhose around the vacuum hose with a rubber band.

    • 2

Place the grapevine wreath on top of a towel on the floor. Turn on the vacuum cleaner and with the pantyhose-covered hand held wand/hose attachment, vacuum the entire wreath. The hose allows the dust to be vacuumed without pulling the twigs and natural vines of the grapevine wreath into the hose.

    • 3

Spray the grapevine wreath with a furniture dusting/polishing spray. Avoid getting the spray on ribbons or decorative elements on the wreath. Cover ribbon, etc., with one hand as you spray the can of dusting polish with your other hand.

    • 4

Wipe the grapevine wreath with a clean cloth. The conditioners in the dusting/polishing spray will have the same effect on the grapevine that they do when treating/dusting wood furniture. It will give a bit of a lift to the dried "woody" vine.

    • 5

Use the glue gun and the glue sticks to make needed repairs to any loose sections of ribbon, bows or other ornamentation.

    • 6

Fluff the bow, if the wreath has one, by inserting an index finger into each individual ribbon loop and shaping the loops into full circles so they aren't smashed or flattened. Rehang the grapevine wreath.
