How to Make Artificial Plants

Artificial plants make wonderful decorations that will last a lifetime. Fake plants are ones that are fitted into a planter pot with the use of foam or another plastic material that holds the stems of the flowers in place. Artificial plants do not require pruning, watering or feeding, thus they make a great gift for people on the go. These plants are also great for their year-round appeal and lasting petals that never cease to stay put.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut one of the Styrofoam balls, with the knife, one-third of the way in. Place a dime-sized amount of hot glue onto the rounded surface and stick it into the planter pot. The flat side will be face up.

    • 2

Place hot glue onto 3 inches of the end of the stick. Push the stick into the Styrofoam in the planter and let it dry to stabilize the stick. Press the other ball onto the exposed end of the stick halfway, or 2 inches, into the ball.

    • 3

Remove the ball and spray it with the green paint and set it aside to dry briefly. After three to five minutes, hold the ball with one hand and use the other to make the holes for the boxwood branches. With the floral pick, place several holes across the surface of the ball, ideally every 2 inches around the circumference.

    • 4

Place hot glue onto the boxwood sticks and press them into the holes. Put hot glue onto the dried flowers and set them onto the boxwood sticks. Place hot glue onto the petals and put them onto the ball itself, covering the Styrofoam. Let dry for five to 10 minutes.

    • 5

Push the ball onto the stick in the planter pot. Disburse some hot glue across the top of the Styrofoam within the pot and place Spanish moss across to cover the Styrofoam.
