Instructions

  1. Salt

    • 1

Bunch the silk flowers together with a rubber band at the base of the stems. Pour 1 cup of table salt into a large plastic bag and put the flowers into the bag, stems up.

    • 2

Fasten another rubber band tightly around the the outside of the bag and the protruding stems so that no salt will escape from the bag. Include the leaves in the bag.

    • 3

Shake the bag while holding the stems. The salt will absorb the dust, according to Heloise, the household hints guru.

    • 4

Hold the flowers with their stems up and unwind the rubber band from the bag. Lightly shake the flowers to remove all the salt and pull them out of the bag.

    Air

Insert the thin nozzle attachment into the nozzle of a can of compressed air. Break the safety seal underneath the nozzle by pulling it outward from the can.

    • 6

Hold the end of the nozzle attachment 4 to 6 inches from the silk flowers and squeeze to release the compressed air.

    • 7

Sweep the can back and forth as you blow the dust off the flowers.

    Vacuum

    • 8

Fit the upholstery brush attachment onto your vacuum. A soft-bristled brush is best.

    • 9

Move the flower arrangement or flowers to a well-lit area so that you can see the dust particles.

    • 10

Turn on the vacuum and brush the leaves and flowers gently with the brush attachment to remove the dust.
