How to Make Flower Headbands for Infants

Flower headbands can complete an infant's outfit, providing a little decoration for a sparsely covered head and helping to distinguish baby girls from baby boys. While these can be bought at baby boutiques, they also are easy to make at home. Making headbands not only saves money, but also allows you to customize the fit and ensure they match every outfit. With a few common crafting supplies, anyone with basic sewing skills can make a flower headband for an infant.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the circumference of the baby's head around the spot where the headband will rest. Cut out a piece of fabric that is twice as long as this measurement and 2 inches wide.

    • 2

Fold the fabric in half, bringing the longer edges together. Sew the longer edges together, forming a tube of fabric. Use a quarter-inch seam allowance.

    • 3

Cut a piece of elastic that is just long enough to wrap around the baby's head. Turn the fabric tube right side out and thread the elastic piece through it, gathering the fabric as needed.

    • 4

Sew the two ends of the elastic together. Sew the open ends of the fabric tube together.

    • 5

Hot glue a silk flower (ideally about 3 inches in diameter) to the headband over the seam.
