Art Projects for 3D Flowers

When you don't have access to fresh flowers, you can spruce your home decor by using handmade 3-D flowers. Art projects for 3-D flowers range from simple crafts that children can make to more elaborate projects that require time and concentration. Use 3-D flowers to decorate for a party or wedding, to add a bit of charm to the front of your refrigerator or in a child's bedroom.
  1. Tissue Paper Flower Bouquet

    • You can turn a plain pile of tissue paper and a few pipe cleaners into a lovely bouquet that doesn't need watering. Make each flower by stacking several sheets of paper and then folding each like an accordion. Wrap a pipe cleaner around the center of the paper and pull each individual sheet away from the pile so that the paper takes the shape of a of carnation. Straighten out the end of the pipe cleaner to form a stem.

    Giant Floral Pom-Pom

    • Use the same process as the tissue paper bouquet, but with more paper to create a large pom-pom flower that you can hang from the ceiling. The tissue paper should be at least 20-inches-by-30-inches in size. Make the accordion folds so that they are at least 1-inch wide. Wrap a piece of wire around the center and tie a thin string to it, such as fishing line to the wire. Pull the paper apart to create the large, 3-D flower.

    3-D Embroidered Flowers

    • If you know how to machine embroider, you can produce 3-D flowers made out of organza or a light linen fabric. Download or purchase an embroidery pattern and load it into your machine. Embroider one flower, then cut out and lay it on top of another piece of fabric and embroider the second flower. Make as many layers as you like as each additional layer will add to the thickness of the flower. Attach stems by threading floral wire through the middle.

    Candy Flowers

    • 3-D flowers that you can eat are usually a lot more fun than flowers that only function as decorations. Melt chocolate wafers and pour the liquid into rose or other flower shaped molds. Insert a lollipop stick in the bottom of the flower before the chocolate hardens. Cover each candy flower in colorful cellophane, gather into a bouquet and place in a vase. Use the candy bouquet as a centerpiece or leave it in the entryway of your home so guests can take a flower home as a party favor.
