How Do I Make Crepe Streamer Flowers?

Whether you're decorating for a party or a holiday, crepe paper streamers are an inexpensive way to add vivid touches of color to your decor. But you can do more with these streamers then twist them and hang them between walls or around columns. Make bouquets of brightly colored paper flowers to hang in clusters, connect into a garland or bunch together in a vase for a table display.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Measure a length of floral wire to be the stem. Make it twice as long as you want the finished stem. Bend it in half like a hair pin.

    • 2

Wrap double-sided tape around the wire, starting at the bend. Spiral the tape six or seven times around, going downward and overlapping the layers to create a sticky surface. The sticky surface should go from the tip of the bend about 3 inches down the stem.

    • 3

Take the cut end of the crepe paper streamer and stick the lower corner of the crepe paper against the top edge of the double-sided tape, right near the bend. Wrap the streamer loosely around and around the wire, spiraling slightly lower each time you go around. Press the bottom edge of the streamer to the double-sided tape as it goes around the wire.

    • 4

Stop at any point, cut off the excess streamer and change colors, continuing to wrap with another streamer roll. You can make blossoms of a single color, or use multiple colors.

    • 5

Keep wrapping until the blossom is as full as you want it, or you run out of space on the double-sided tape base. Cut off the excess crepe streamer.

    • 6

Pinch the bottom of the paper flower tightly to the wire. Wrap green floral wire around the base of the crepe paper. Continue wrapping floral wire down the rest of the wire base to make it look like a stem.
