How to Craft Wooden Flowers

Flower arrangements brighten any room, but fresh flowers require care and usually don't last long. Make your own floral arrangement with a few wooden flowers that you can paint in colors to match your decor. Brighten a window with a garland of three colorful wooden flowers, or hang them from a hook in a child's room. For a fun, rainy-day project, let your children help you paint the pieces and attach the wires.

  • 4-mm plywood
  • Scroll saw

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a flower pattern in the size you want your flowers on a piece of paper.

    • 2

Draw a circle that will be the center of the flower on another piece of paper.

    • 3

Trace three flowers and six circles onto the plywood.

    • 4

Remove all of the parts from the plywood using the scroll saw. You will have nine items in all.

    • 5

Sand any rough edges from the cut plywood pieces.

    • 6

Paint the flowers and center circles on all sides in the desired colors, and let all of the pieces dry thoroughly.

    • 7

Glue a center circle in the middle of each flower, one on each side of the flower shape.

    • 8

Drill a hole in the top and bottom of the first two flowers, and drill one hole in the top of the last flower.

    • 9

Insert thin pieces of wire to connect the three flowers.

    • 10

Attach the wire at the top of the first flower to a chain to hang from a hook in the ceiling, a curtain rod or a tree branch.
