How to Use Fruit in a Flower Vase

  Select a large, clear glass vase. The best effect is achieved with a plain glass vase that does not have etching or raised patterns.

  Fill the vase two-thirds full with cranberries.

  Insert the stems of the flowers into the vase, using the cranberries to hold them in place. Cut some flower stems shorter than others, to add visual interest to the arrangement.

  Fill the vase with water to the top of the cranberries.

Fruit Alone

  Choose a vase with a large base, preferably tapering to a smaller neck and mouth. Clear glass is best, although you could also use a delicately colored vase, such as pale green or gold depression glass. Stay away from overly ornate vases with etching or carving, which will detract from the contents.

  Add the chosen fruits to the vase, packing them snugly, but not too snug. There should be plenty of airspace between and around the fruits.

  Tie a ribbon in a complementary or contrasting color around the thinnest part of the neck of the bottle, either tying the ends in a bow or overlapping the ends for a "band" effect. Secure the ribbon to the vase with a dot of water-soluble white glue.
