The Art of Arranging Artificial Flowers

Artificial flowers offer the floral decorator many options, particularly in the winter when certain flower types aren’t available or become expensive to use. Just like in the garden, many varieties exist, bringing never-fading color into the home.
  1. Differing Heights

    • When arranging artificial flowers, the decorator should choose flowers of varying heights and breadth. The tallest flowers will go in the middle, bringing the eye upward. The heads on the flowers (the blooms) look prettier if they come in different sizes and shapes and are dispersed throughout the flower arrangement.

    Greenery and Branches

    • Almost all flower arrangements look better with greenery. Most real flowers have a silk equivalent. In terms of greenery, excellent choices are fern fronds or ivy or maple leaves. Artificial pussy willow or Aspen branches add interesting visuals to an arrangement.

    Considerations

    • Some florists who work with artificial flowers still use some real stuff in their arrangements, including items like dried pea pods or baby’s breath. Many of these items share the same shelves in the craft store, so if a decorator would like to see how they look together, she has the opportunity right in the store.
