How to Make Daisies at Home Out of Paper

You love the look of flowers arranged in a vase on your dining room table, but you hate how quickly they wilt and how expensive frequently replacing them can be. Save money and tap into your creative side by making your own paper daisies. Use the daisies as part of a centerpiece, give them to a friend as a congratulatory gift or help a child make them to give to her teacher as a gift of appreciation.

Things You'll Need

  • Drinking glass with an opening about 3 inches wide
  • White printer paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Yellow pipe cleaner
  • Ruler
  • Green floral wire
  • Floral tape
  • Hot glue gun

Instructions

    • 1

Fold your piece of printer paper in half. Trace the opening of your drinking glass onto the paper. Cut the circle out of both layers of paper.

    • 2

Hold the two circles of paper together while you cut eight evenly spaced slits into the circles from the edge in toward the center, stopping about an inch out from the center. An easy way to ensure the slits are evenly spaced is to fold the circles in half three times, barely creasing the folds as you do, and then unfold the circles. Then, cut your slits where the slight crease marks appear. Trim the end of each petal so they are rounded rather than square.

    • 3

Pinch each petal between your thumbnail and the crook of your index finger, starting near the center of the flower, and lightly run your thumbnail along the underside of each petal to give the petals shape. Glue the two layers of the daisy together, with the petals of the bottom layer showing between the petals of the top, with a dot of craft glue.

    • 4

Measure and cut a 4-inch length of yellow pipe cleaner. Roll the pipe cleaner up into a coil. Use a dot of craft glue to glue the coiled pipe cleaner in the center of the daisy.

    • 5

Measure and cut a 12-inch length of green floral wire. Wrap the wire with green floral tape twice to create a stem. Attach the stem to the center of the underside of the daisy with hot glue.
