Place marbles or pebbles into the vase to create a 1-inch base. Artificial materials and the dry-foam in which they are arranged are light weight, so use sand, pebbles or marbles to provide stability for at the base.
Estimate the size of the arrangement's vase or container and cut a block of foam small enough to sit in it. Stabilize the foam by filling the area between the foam and wall of the vase with more pebbles or marbles.
Plan the arrangement. Examine the flowers you are working with and visualize what they will look like gathered together in the vase or container.
Cut the flower stems with wire cutters to adjust their height. Vary the lengths of the stems to create an arrangement with depth.
Sink the largest flowers into the foam. Insert some stems further than others and build around the large-size flowers with small and medium-sized flowers. Address the arrangement from all angles to ensure that equal attention is given to all sides of the arrangement.
Carefully bend the stems to adjust how the flowers fall. The goal is to make the arrangement take on as natural appearance as possible. Gently bend some stems more than others and tilt the flower heads in irregular directions while thinking about the way each type of flower grows.
Step back and evaluate the arrangement. Search for holes, bare spots or places where the flowers look unnatural and fill in where appropriate.
