Ways to Arrange Flowers

Whether you're looking for a way to add interest to a table for a dinner party, or you just want to bring a splash of color to a bedside table, consider doing so with a flower arrangement. No matter what type of flowers you're using, be they store-bought, fresh-clipped from your garden or silk, there are a variety of ways to arrange them to create an eye-catching display.
  1. Basket of Flowers

    • Bring a taste of country to your home with a basket-themed flower arrangement idea. Select a handled basket in a color of your choice and use it as the container for an arrangement of flowers. Place floral foam inside the basket and haphazardly insert the stems of various flowers, such as daisies, lilies and lavender, into the foam. Accent the arrangement by tying a decorative ribbon to the handle of the basket.

    Single Variety

    • Make a simple yet elegant arrangement by using only one type of flower. Gather several stems of your favorite type of flower, such as roses, hydrangea or Gerbera daisies. If you're using flowers that have the same stem length, gather them tightly together to form a compact bouquet. If your flowers are cut to different lengths, place the longer stems in the center of the arrangement and surround them with the shorter-stemmed flowers. Place the arrangement in a vase or a decorative pitcher.

    Piled High

    • Use fish bowls to create a unique flower arrangement. Purchase two or three same-sized fish bowls. Fill the bowls with water, curl hosta leaves around the insides of each of the bowls and stack the bowls on top of one another. Gather together a bouquet of zinnias with short stems and place it in the uppermost bowl. Add even more depth to the display by surrounding the pile of fish bowls with three single fish bowls, each decorated with their own hosta leaf and zinnia flower arrangements.

    Ball of Flowers

    • Instead of displaying a floral arrangement on a table or other flat surface, make a flower arrangement that can be suspended from a ceiling, a curtain rod or even a chandelier. Purchase ball-shaped floral foam and decorative ribbon. Form a loop with the ribbon and insert it into the floral foam. Clip your favorite flowers so that there is only a small amount of the stem of each flower left. Insert the stems of the flowers into the foam so that the entire ball is covered with flowers. Suspend the arrangement from the ribbon.
