How to Make a Floral Arrangement in a Tower Vase

A tower vase is a tall, narrow vase that is usually anywhere from 12 to 36 inches in height. This type of vase is a good choice to hold a floral centerpiece that will set on a table where guests are facing each other. The tower vase allows for the floral arrangement to be higher than the guests' heads so their lines of vision are not hindered.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a tower vase for your flower arrangement that matches the theme, colors and overall design of your home or special event. Choose from an array of colors, sizes and patterns.

    • 2

Add water until the vase is two-thirds full.

    • 3

Purchase long-stemmed flowers, like lilies, roses or orchids, and greenery for your arrangement. Check what varieties of flowers are in season. Your vase can hold just one color or a few.

    • 4

Decide whether you want the flowers in the arrangement to be the same length or if you want to stagger the lengths. Staggering the flower lengths will help fill space so you don't see a lot of stems.

    • 5

Place the flowers in the vase. If, in step 4, you decided to cut the flowers in varying lengths, add the tallest flowers first. Add the shorter flowers one by one around the taller flowers and closer to the outside of the arrangement. If the shorter flowers are placed too close to the center, the taller flowers will prevent them from being seen. Add the greenery last, making sure that any cascading variety is placed in the front or on the sides, not the center. Use the greenery to close any gaps in the design and add a color contrast to the arrangement.

Tie a decorative ribbon around the rim of the vase for a final touch.
