Instructions

    • 1

Design a basic floral arrangement. Before you start cutting plants up and putting them into a vase, it helps to come up with at least a basic idea of what you want the floral arrangement to look like. You can do a quick sketch on paper or use a graphics manipulation program or other software on the computer. Consider the texture of the different plants you want to incorporate, whether you want to use fresh or dried flowers, as well as the colors and sizes of the plants. You may have a specific theme you want to stick to or prefer a more random, natural look.

    • 2

Separate the dried palm fronds to prepare for use in your floral arrangement. Clipping with a sharp pair of scissors or gardening shears works best, as bending or ripping can cause the dried plant to crumble. Consider the other flowers and greens you plan to incorporate into your design, to help keep the floral arrangement proportionate; the larger the other plants, the larger you should keep the pieces of dried palm.

    • 3

Add some of the other flowers and plants to the vase, placing them in one at a time, maintaining a proper balance by adding to all sides of the vase.

    • 4

Place a few pieces of dried palm into the floral arrangement, spaced evenly apart from each other. You do not have to be exact, but your goal is to maintain an overall harmony with the floral arrangement, so, for instance, you do not want one side more decorated than the other.

    • 5

Add more dried palm to the floral arrangement until you achieve the desired look. For a full, finished look, continue alternating between pieces of dried palm and the other plants in your design until you have a gathering of plants that fits snugly into the vase.
