Look for a fall-themed container to house the floral arrangement. According to Jane Packer, author of "Complete Guide to Flower Arranging," a common fall flower container is a dried gourd, or a pumpkin-shaped ceramic vase. If you would rather use a plain vase, select one in a warm fall color, such as orange or red.
Gather three to four different types of fall-colored flowers to include in the floral arrangement. Sunflowers and colored carnations work as a base for the fall theme.
Accent the flowers in the arrangement with greenery. Fern leaves and tall grasses typically provide a pleasant green to accent the oranges, yellows and reds of the flowers. If you would rather not use greenery, select dried plants or twigs instead.
Arrange the flowers together, with the taller ones in the center and shorter ones lining the bouquet. Either place the flowers in a uniform pattern, or experiment with mixing up the sizes and colors for contrast.
Place the greenery around the edges of the bouquet to offset the brightness of the flowers. You might also want to place a few sprigs of greenery in the center of the bouquet.
Tie the base of the stems of the floral arrangement together tightly with string. Firmly press the tied end into a block of floral foam to hold the arrangement upright.
Place the floral foam block into the fall-themed container and carefully rearrange the flowers as necessary.
