How to Make Dried Flowers From Fresh Flowers

Air-Dry Flowers

  Trim excess leaves and foliage from the flowers and trim the stems to any desired length, preferably keeping them longer than 6 inches.

  Gather a few flowers and use a rubber band to hold the stems together, about 2 or 3 inches from the bottom. Make sure the flowers have plenty of space and are not too close together. This provides better air circulation for the drying process.

  Cut a length of unflavored dental floss measuring about 2 feet long. Tie one end of unflavored dental floss to the rubber band around the flower stems and the other end to the top of the coat hanger, so the flowers are hanging upside down.

  Hang the coat hanger in a cool, dry and dim location, such as a closet. Make sure nothing touches the flowers.

  Allow the flowers to dry for one to three weeks or until crisp to the touch.

Flower Press Method

  Cut excess foliage from the flowers and trim the stems to fit into the press.

  Put a piece of blotting paper on the press. Gather about three flowers and lay them neatly on the piece of blotting paper.

  Arrange the petals how you would like them to appear once dried and flattened.

  Place another piece of blotting paper on top of the flowers and close the press.

  Allow the flowers to dry in the press for one to three weeks.
