How to Arrange Silk Flower Art

Artfully arranged silk flowers make beautiful decorations for your living space. With silk flower arrangements, there is no need to worry about the cost of using live flowers or the mess of having to maintain and water them. Many types of silk flowers are available and there are many options for how to arrange them, such as vertical, horizontal and triangular designs. When purchasing your selection of flowers, consider the decor and color scheme of the area you in which you will display the arrangement.

Instructions

  1. Horizontal Arrangement

    • 1

Hot glue a section of floral foam to the bottom of the inside of the basket. This will form the base of your horizontal silk flower arrangement.

    • 2

Determine the layout of your creation. The larger silk flowers should form the center, or focal point, while the smaller flowers will fill in the surrounding area.

    • 3

Use the wire cutters to adjust the length of the silk flowers. This design requires silk flowers with very short stems, as they will be spread out horizontally.

    • 4

Begin inserting your large silk flowers into the floral foam. Anchor the large flowers fairly low down in the center of the foam.

    • 5

Fill out your arrangement with smaller silk flowers. To complete a horizontal silk flower arrangement, build outward instead of upward on either side of the flowers in the center.

    Vertical Arrangement

    • 6

Cut a piece of floral foam so that it fits snugly inside the vase. Use hot glue to secure the floral foam if it is loose.

    • 7

Repeat Step 2 and 3 from Section 1. Cut the large silk flowers so that they have the longest stems, and cut the stems of the filler flowers at slightly shorter lengths.

    • 8

Place the large flowers in the center of the foam so that they stand tall.

    • 9

Fill out your vertical silk flower arrangement so that the filler flowers are also standing upright. The arrangement should have significant height but little width.

    Triangle Arrangement

    • 10

Repeat Step 1 of Section 2 to create a silk flower arrangement base in a vase.

    • 11

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 of Section 1. Instead of leaving the stems of your filler flowers long, cut them at varying lengths, making some quite short.

    • 12

Insert your large flowers into the center of the floral foam.

    • 13

Fill out the sides of your silk flower arrangement with the remaining silk flowers. Use the varying lengths to build the width as opposed to the height so that a triangle shape is formed.
