I Want to Know How to Arrange Flowers

Floral arrangements add beauty to a room by adding bright colors and visual interest while the fragrance from flowers wafts through the room. Brightening your decor with floral arrangements can become expensive when you purchase ready-made arrangements or have them made at the local florist shop. Making your own floral arrangements is a simple, enjoyable activity that can be accomplished using the flowers that grow in your garden or inexpensive flowers bought at a local grocery store.

Instructions

    • 1
Green, leafy branches have a functional and aesthetic purpose in your floral arrangement.

Snip off two to four leafy tree branches from your yard. Cut the branches on an angle from a well-established tree. The branches will serve as a supporting anchor for the other flowers and greenery in your arrangement.

    • 2

Place a lazy Susan on your work space. This allows you to turn the vase easily so you can view the arrangements from all sides as you create it.

    • 3
Once a large glass jar is emptied it can easily become a vase for flower arrangements.

Choose a vase or other suitable container. Add interest to your arrangement by using an old mason jar or empty glass pitcher.

    • 4

Situate the leafy branches in the vase to create support for other flowers. Hold the flowers in your hand and create the arrangement while holding the flowers so you have more control over how you vary the heights of the flowers in comparison to other flowers. Wrap a rubber band around the group of flowers, four inches from the base of the stems, to hold the arrangement in place.

Fill the vase with warm water that is approximately 110 degrees Fahrenheit, and add two drops of liquid bleach to prevent the stems from mildewing in the water. Put the flower arrangement in the vase. Add flowers one at a time around the main arrangement to fill out the arrangement.
