How to Make Simple Hydrangea Centerpieces

Clear Drinking Glass

  Cut the stems of five hydrangea blossoms down to the size of the drinking glass, and remove any leaves that will remain submerged in the water. Cut the stems at a 45-degree angle as this enables them to easily absorb water.

  Place the cut hydrangea blossoms, complete with stems, into a tall clear drinking glass.

  Pour fresh water into the clear glass.

  Place the hydrangea centerpiece on the table. Leave the centerpiece by itself or, for added interest, arrange candles around it or sprinkle flower petals onto the table.

Tall Colorful Containers

  Select a tall container or vase that is the same color as the hydrangeas.

  Fill the container 2/3 of the way full with stones or marbles.

  Cut the flowers down to the size of the vase by holding them next to the vase so that they are not too short or too tall.

  Arrange the hydrangeas in the container so that it appears full. Insert the tallest hydrangea flower into the center of the vase and place the shorter flowers along the edge of the vase. Continue adding hydrangeas to fill any large gaps.

  Place the container into a wide bowl.

  Fill the bowl with clear glass stones.

  Set the centerpiece onto the table.

Floral Foam Flowerpot

  Cut a block of floral foam to fit inside a flowerpot. Soak the foam in water to help keep fresh hydrangeas alive.

  Insert the block into the flowerpot.

  Cut four to five hydrangea stems so that they are 1 1/2 times taller than the flowerpot; place these hydrangeas in the center of the floral foam.

  Cut four additional stems 3 inches shorter than the previously arranged hydrangeas; place these flowers around the taller hydrangeas.

  Fill in the outer gap with hydrangea flowers inserted at a slight angle so that they point out of the container.

  Add more hydrangea flowers as needed to make the arrangement appear full.

  Fill any empty spaces with Spanish moss; cover the exposed florist foam with the moss completely.
