Mums are a traditional fall flower, and are readily available in artificial versions as well. To make an arrangement using artificial mums, use a shorter container about 3 to 5 inches deep. To make the arrangement, combine both large mums and small mums of the same color and distribute them evenly throughout the container. Cut the stems so the flowers sit just above the top of the container. If the mums do not come with any green foliage, find some green leaves to place around the outside edges of the container.
An arrangement of fall berries, such as rose hips, are a very simple tall-style arrangement to make. Find long artificial sticks of berries in a reddish jewel tone, and some in a green shade as well. The sticks of berries can then be placed in a tall vase or container. If the berry stems are too long for the vase, trim them individually and arrange them to achieve the desired look.
Artificial carving pumpkins and gourds can be found at the craft store and cut open to make a container for your arrangement. A mixture of large sunflowers, roses, daisies, berries and greenery in fall colors can be use in the pumpkin. To give a unique and very fall look, autumn-colored leaves and apples can also be added to the arrangement. The pumpkin or gourd can be decorated with fall-colored ribbons.
A rose and mum arrangement in coordinating fall colors makes for a classy fall decoration. Find medium sized artificial mums and roses in similar hues. Cut the stems to the desired height. For an added touch, use a clear glass vase and wrap artificial grasses around the inside of the vase, so the grass is all that's seen from the outside, then fill the vase with roses and mums.
