Single Silk Flower Decorating Ideas

Fresh flowers can brighten up any room, but it's difficult to incorporate them into your decor for more than a few days because they die. Faux flowers made from plastic tend to look cheap. Silk flowers are higher quality and usually have bolder color and more realistic texture. They last as long as you need, but you can always make a simple change or remove them when you want a new look.
  1. Silk Flower Fairy Lights

    • Silk flowers don't just belong in vases, bottles and tins. Hang a garland of them above for some eye-catching, illuminating blossoms. You need a string of Christmas lights, also called fairy lights. Remove the stems from blossoms of your favorite silk flower. Lilies work especially well because of the shape of the flower. Cut a tiny hole in the center of each blossom big enough to tightly push a standard indoor Christmas light through. Repeat this process for each bulb on your string of lights. Hang one set, or create several to cross over one another.

    Neat and Orderly

    • Purchasing identical or similar single-stem flowers and similar vases allows you to fill an empty space with a clean and elegant display. Line a low bookcase with slim, clear vases and place a silk tulip, poppy or rose in each one. Long-stem flowers work well because they have a long, slim shape. Do the same with a windowsill or along the center of a garden party table. For a more rustic look, use Mason jars, glass milk jugs, vintage tins, or mix and match colored glass for a bohemian touch.

    Clustering

    • When you just can't resist a bunch of your single favorite silk flower, feature it in a cluster display. Cut stems short on flowers like roses, carnations and even daisies. Bunch the single blossoms together and tie with a satin bow. Place in a squat vase, and feature several of these single-flower displays around the room, or set each one at a place setting for a reception or dinner party. To keep the single-stem look, create a display with as many clear glass bottles, vases and jars as you can find. Cluster them together and place one flower each of your favorite faux.

    Crafty Decor

    • You don't always have to feature your silk flower in a vase or arrangement. Feature it in your home decor instead. Take an old mirror or picture frame and paint it a vibrant color, gluing on a single silk flower on one corner, or lining single blossoms around its perimeter. Create three-dimensional home accents by sewing a flower on to a throw pillow or even a patchwork quilt. You can also frame your single flower or place it in a shadow box, displaying it on a wall with several others of different colors.
