Flora associated with the West include bluebonnets, cacti and red chili peppers. All of these can be effective decorations for crafting a wreath. Cover a grapevine wreath with red chili peppers for a colorful look. Design a wreath with a cluster of cacti in small terra-cotta pots, hot gluing them to the bottom inside edge of the wreath. Add a burlap bow to the top to provide more color, and glue moss around the bases to finish the wreath. Hot glue stems of blueblonnets to a wreath and add a florist's bow to hide the stems, creating an attractive and simple decoration featuring flowers native to the West.
The West is rich in American Indian culture. Pottery and baskets are two American Indian crafts that easily adapt to a Western grapevine wreath. Painted pots feature intricate Indian designs; cluster small reproductions of these artistic pots and hot glue them to a wreath. Incorporate reproductions of Indian baskets in the same manner. Add moss around the items and a turquoise, red or gold bow at the top for a distinctive wreath for a home.
Kids like to pretend they are cowboys, showing off bandannas, six-shooters, holsters, cowboy boots with spurs and cowboy hats: all images of the Old West that provide a focal point for a wreath. Fold bandannas into origami flowers. Group them together and attach them with wire to a grapevine wreath. Hot glue miniature cowboy boots to the wreath and glue straw around the boots. Wire a child's cowboy hat to the side of a wreath and add bandanna tied into a bow for Western flair. A shiny pair of child's spurs also works well.
Horses appear in every Western action movie and represent the free spirit of the American West. Create a wreath around this concept by slightly overlapping a pair of horseshoes and attaching them to the grapevine wreath with hot glue. Adding a little moss around the shoes and wiring a bow to the top of the wreath finishes the project. Other options include substituting a miniature saddle or bridle for the horseshoes, or using a small plastic horse or horses as the focal point in the design. Include a few sprigs of faux flowers that resemble Texas bluebonnets for color and interest.
