Florist Bow Instructions

A florist bow is distinct for its many layers and grand, domelike structure. Typically, this type of bow accompanies floral arrangements, but it can also be used to adorn a gift or gift box. In a pinch, you can use decorative ribbon to create a florist bow on your own instead of going out and purchasing one. The result will be a custom, one-of-a-kind accessory to your precious gift.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of decorative ribbon that measures 2 yards long. Cut a piece of wire that measures 3 inches long and set aside.

    • 2

Start at the end of the ribbon and measure out 6 inches. Leave this length to hang as the tail. Pinch the ribbon at the 6-inch mark between your thumb and forefinger.

    • 3

Measure out 12 more inches of ribbon and fold that section over to form a loop. The loop should end back at the 6-inch mark where you are pinching the ribbon.

    • 4

Repeat the folding process by looping the ribbon back and forth, forming a neat pile. Keep going until you have folded all the ribbon.

    • 5

Pinch the pile of folded ribbon in its center. Wrap the wire around the middle point of the folded ribbon and then twist the wire around itself, forming a small knot.

    • 6

Pull the ribbon folds apart from one another to form the petals of the florist bow. Each loop should be equal in size. Use your scissors to cut the tail of the bow in half lengthwise, so that there are two streamers hanging from the dome-shaped bow.
