How to Make Paper Marigolds

Marigolds are a bright and beautiful flower that give a bit of pizazz to any room. Unfortunately, fresh flowers require upkeep and don't last very long, leaving the room looking dull and lifeless. In addition to this, people with allergies may get sick from fresh marigolds. For those situations, it is a good idea to make fake marigolds from tissue paper and pipe cleaners. These tissue paper flowers last longer than real ones and are a great craft for kids.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold one sheet of tissue paper in half, bringing the shorter edges together. Fold the tissue paper in half once more in this same direction.

    • 2

Starting at one of the shorter edges, fold the edge over 1/2 inch. Turn the paper over and fold the same edge over 1/2 inch more, creating an accordion effect.

    • 3

Repeat step 2 until the paper is accordion-folded all the way across.

    • 4

Twist one end of a pipe cleaner around the middle of the accordion-folded paper.

    • 5

Cut and round off the corners of the paper.

    • 6

Fan out all sides of the accordion until the tissue paper forms a circular shape.

    • 7

Pull up the first layer of tissue paper toward the center of the circle, all the way around. Pull up each of the other layers of paper individually in the same manner.

    • 8

Fluff up the paper flower to the desired fullness and shape.
