How to Make Pinecone Flowers

Making pine cone flowers is terrific nature craft that could involve the whole family. Pine cones can be found under almost any pine tree and, when dried, can be fashioned into cheerful flowers. These sturdy blooms can be attached to a wreath with a hot glue gun or glued to plain wooden rings for a striking Thanksgiving Day dinner napkin ring. The flowers can also be glued to twigs, painted and placed in a vase for a faux floral arrangement.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut large pine cones into three sections across the width of the cone with the garden shears and cut small pine cones into two sections with the shears.

    • 2

Gently pull the pine cone scales downward with your fingers while holding the pine cones in your hand.

    • 3

Attach a twig to the bottom of the pine cone with the hot glue gun along the "V" for added stability, to make a "flower stem."

    • 4

Add cloves to the center of the pine cone flower with the hot glue gun.

    • 5

Paint the pine cone "petals" with the acrylic paint, using the artist paintbrush, if desired.
