Line the bottom of the bowl or basket with plastic wrap.
Soak the floral foam in water and place it in the bottom of the bowl so it extends an inch or two past the rim.
Place a mum into the floral foam so the stem is about 2 inches from the bowl's rim and about 4 inches high. This will be the top of the puppy's head.
Place two mums on either side of the puppy's head to make ears. The ears should be angled slightly away from the head, and positioned so they stick up a little higher.
Place three mums underneath the puppy's head with the blossoms facing forward to make a face. The center blossom represents the nose, and should stick out slightly farther than the other two blossoms.
Cut the remaining chrysanthemum stems down to 2 inches with floral shears.
Place two chrysanthemums at the rim of the bowl with the blossoms facing straight up. Space the two flowers apart so they align with the puppy's ears. These are the puppy's front paws.
Line up two chrysanthemums behind each paw to make the legs.
Cut black felt in the shape of puppy eyes and a nose, or you may use black plastic beads for the eyes and nose. Hot glue these features in their proper place onto the centers of the mums. The puppy is now complete.
Stick greens and small colored flowers around the puppy flowers to conceal the stems and fill the rest of the basket. Arrange the greens and flowers to look like a flower bed. The finished product will resemble a little puppy poking its head out of a garden.
