Flowers in Bedrooms

A bedroom is a place for relaxation and sleep as well as romance and intimacy. Decorating with flowers can enhance these attributes of this very personal room through beauty, symbolism and aroma, whether for an individual decorating her private bedroom or a couple trying to create an idyllic atmosphere for love and romance.
  1. Frame the Bed

    • Daisies and greenery make a simple statement in a clear glass vase.

Keep a small sunny bouquet of flowers on a bedside table in a clear glass vase on each side of a bed, and a third, larger bouquet across from the bed on a table or dresser or atop a TV stand. This will provide a view of the flowers from all directions. The third bouquet can either match or complement the two bedside bouquets, which should be matching. Stick with simple flowers such as daffodils, daisies and zinnias, with a touch of greenery.

    Embrace the Aroma

    • Lilacs bloom on bushes in the spring.

Aromatic flowers can be pleasant and soothing. The fragrance from a bouquet of lilacs can easily fill a room. Some other flowers that are known for their fragrance are sweet pea, lily of the valley, hyacinth, iris, gardenia, lavender and peony. Experiment with combinations to see what flowers look pretty together while also having aromas that go well together. Tuck some flowers in a mesh bag inside a pillowcase for a special fragrance.

    Roses for Romance

    • Different colors of roses have traditional symbolic meanings.

Bringing roses into the bedroom for romance can mean a traditionally romantic bouquet of a dozen red roses, a single red rose in a bud vase, or rose petals scattered across the bed and on the floor leading to the bed. But red isn't the only color that signifies love. A bouquet of several colors of roses, including red, yellow (friendship), pink (admiration), orange (passion) and lavender (enchantment), focuses on different facets of a love relationship.

    Flowering Plant

    • Pink azaleas can add a vibrant touch indoors or outdoors.

While you can buy fresh flowers or cut them from a garden, another way to bring flowers into the bedroom is to keep a pretty flowering plant in a central spot in the room. It will be a familiar spot of beauty in the room and will change as new blossoms form and old ones drop off. African violet, azalea and peace lily are among flowering plants that can be kept indoors for all or most of the year.
