How to Use Floating Ribbon in a Vase of Water

Floral arrangements quickly brighten up a room, but sometimes you don't want to be distracted by green and brown flower stems in a clear vase. To make your floral arrangement more sophisticated, add a satin ribbon to the inside of your vase. This gives the illusion that the ribbon is floating in the water. This project works best with a square or rectangular clear glass vase and your choice of ribbon width.

Things You'll Need

  • Clear glass vase, square or rectangle shape
  • 1 yard satin ribbon
  • Scissors

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the low-temp glue stick into the hot glue gun and plug in the appliance.

    • 2

Measure out the amount of ribbon you'll need to go around the inside of the vase one time. Add 1/4 inch extra for coverage.

    • 3

Cut the ribbon. Experiment with the positioning of the ribbon in the vase: centered, at the top, or at the bottom.

    • 4

Place a small drop of glue on two corners of the ribbon and quickly adhere the ribbon to the inside of the vase. Hold in place until cool.

    • 5

Hold the ribbon tight to the inside of the vase and secure the ribbon to each side of the vase with a drop of hot glue.

    • 6

Glue the tail end of the ribbon onto the original starting point. Let the glue cool completely.

    • 7

Fill the vase with cool water and flowers.
