Different Styles of Flower Arrangements With Silk & Dried Flowers

Silk or dried floral arrangements are everlasting. They do not require water and do not drop their petals. You can mix and match colors and shapes without the limitations of the seasons. Many different styles of arrangements will work well for both types of flowers and will be a permanent part of your decor.
  1. Cut Flower Arrangement

    • One of the easiest ways to display dried or silk flowers is to treat them as you would fresh cut flowers. Arrange stems of flowers in your hand until you have a pleasing design. Use at least three varieties of flowers in varying sizes, mixing in leaves and filler flowers, such as baby's breath or wax flowers. Secure the stems with two rubberbands placed several inches apart. Place your bouquet into a pitcher or an opaque vase. Keep the size of your bouquet in scale with your container.

    Mound Arrangement

    • A rounded arrangement of dried or silk flowers is a lovely home accent.

A mound arrangement is designed to be low and viewed from all sides. It is an ideal centerpiece for a table and can be be made with either dried flowers or silk. Choose a focal flower, two secondary flowers and a filler flower. Arrange these flowers in a half ball shape in your low container. Fill the spaces between the flowers with greens and tiny filler flowers.

    Cluster Design

    • Choose three large flowers to be the focus of this arrangement. If you are using silk flowers, peonies or blown roses work especially well. Freeze-dried roses are a good choice. Wedge a piece of plastic florist's foam into a small round basket or ceramic container. Cut the stems short, and cluster your flowers in the center of the container. Add a few dried or artificial varied greens around the flowers. Insert tall graceful twigs in the center of the clustered flowers. A filler flower can be used if desired. Cover the florist's foam with sheet moss for a natural look.

    Triangle Design

    • A classic floral design is the A-shaped or triangular design. This arrangement can be designed with silk or dried flowers and can be viewed from one side or all sides. It can be presented as a tall or low piece. Choose several different kinds of flowers whose colors complement each other. Either a low or high container can be used. Place your largest flowers so that they form a triangle. In a larger arrangement, you will need about a dozen tall focal flowers. Fill in the triangle with your other flowers and greens. Make the triangle low and long if it is to be used for a centerpiece. Add a florist's bow if you wish.
