How to Cut Angles on Floating Floor End Caps

Floating floor end caps slot into the expansion gap around the perimeter of a room after you've laid the floorboards. The method for cutting angles to fit the end caps is the same used to cut skirting boards or moldings to size. If your walls are at a standard 90-degree angle and you've got the right tools, you can be sure of an easy, precise cut and fit at every corner.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • Miter box
  • Handsaw
  • Fine-grit sandpaper

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of the first wall you plan to lay an end cap along.

    • 2

Mark the end cap with a pen where it needs to be cut to fit along the wall.

    • 3

Clamp a length of end cap in a miter box and align the mark you made with a 45-degree cutting point.

    • 4

Fit a handsaw into the 45-degree cutting line of the miter box and cut the end cap.

    • 5

Smooth the rough edges of the cut with fine-grit sandpaper.

    • 6

Repeat the process with any other lengths of end caps you need to lay along the walls.
