How to Cut Laminate Flooring Under a Laundry Tub

There's no point in having carpet in the laundry room. If you have a leak, the floor becomes completely sodden. The most practical flooring type for your laundry room is a hard-wearing laminate. The most complicated part of the process is cutting your boards around your laundry tub, but this is a simple process for most people.

Things You'll Need

  • Underlayment
  • Spacers
  • Tape measure
  • Marker pen
  • Set Square
  • Safety goggles
  • Jigsaw

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the first row of laminate flooring up to the laundry tub as per the manufacturer's instructions. Install a foam underlayment with a polyurethane moisture barrier over the subfloor before you begin. Use plastic spacers to create a one-half inch expansion gap between the flooring and wall.

    • 2

Measure the distance from the last full-length board you laid next to your laundry tub and the tub’s edge.

    • 3

Mark a laminate board with the measurement you've taken, accounting for the expansion gap. Using a set square, mark a straight line across the board.

    • 4

Put on safety goggles and cut the laminate board to size with a jigsaw.

    • 5

Install the cut board up to the tub’s edge. Place plastic spacers between the board’s end and tub continuing the expansion gap.

    • 6

Repeat the process with additional rows of flooring when you reach the tub.

    • 7

Remove the plastic spacers from between your boards and tub when the floor is completed. Fill the gap with caulk. Smooth the edges of the caulk bead you lay with a spatula.
