Remove all furniture from the room. Unscrew the door from the door frame and store it in a safe place outside the room.
Pull up any carpeting and ensure that the floor is in good condition. Fix any existing problems before installing the laminate flooring. If the subfloor squeaks, for instance, locate the source of the problem and drive two spiral nails into the floor to eliminate the noise.
Place spacers along the edges of the floor. This creates ¼ inch of space for the laminate flooring to expand.
Unroll the foam underlayment on the floor and cut it to fit with a pair of scissors. If the padding is in strips, tape the edges together to keep them in place. Don't let the edges overlap. If your floor is concrete, cover it with a polyethylene plastic vapor barrier before you lay the padding.
Plan the layout of the boards before you begin installation, and choose a starting point based on the requirements of the room. For instance, you can install the laminate boards in a design that draws focus to one section of the room while hiding problems in another section.
Install the laminate boards according to the manufacturer’s directions. The process involves placing the boards on the floor in the design you have selected and pushing them together. Dry fit the first three rows of the laminate flooring to check your design. When you are satisfied with the layout, apply glue to the edges of each board before you fit them together. Wait for the glue to dry on the first three rows before installing the remaining boards.
