Plan and measure your wooden overhang design. Determine and mark where the posts will sit for the foundation.
Insert post anchors into the ground where the posts will be placed.
Measure and cut the four 4-by-4 posts to the desired height of your overhang.
Insert into the posts into the anchors and secure into place using a nail gun.
Ensure the posts are level using a leveler. Readjust as needed.
Attach the four 2-by-12 support beam boards to the four posts, using a nail gun. The boards are attached extending out from the home or building to the front of the overhang. One board is attached to the inside of the post, one board attached to the outside of the post.
Install the 2-by-6 rafters, placing a block between each rafter tail. The number of 2-by-6 rafters needed depends on the size of your overhang; they should be placed approximately 1 foot apart.
Drill three 1 1/2-inch diameter holes into every third rafter.
Attach the plywood sheet to the rafter blocks using a nail gun.
