Granite Floor Tile Installation

Granite tiles are an expensive yet attractive way of decorating a kitchen or bathroom floor. The color and finish make them a great alternative to decorated ceramic tiles while still offering the same easy to clean and waterproof benefits. Installing tiles yourself can seem a very daunting task, but with a bit of preparation it can be quite simple and very rewarding.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the dimensions of the area you want to tile over with a tape measure, and buy the correct number of tiles. Remember to buy a few extra as spares and replacements.

    • 2

Work out how to arrange the tiles and where tiles need to be cut to fit in. It is best to leave the cut tiles on one side of the room rather than in the middle.

    • 3

Starting in one corner spread some adhesive on the floor, place the tile and fit the plastic spacers around it.

    • 4

Lay rows of tiles and make your way across the floor until it is completely covered. Wipe away any adhesive that gets on the tiles with a damp cloth.

    • 5

Cut smaller pieces of tile using a tile cutter. This is a very simple tool to use and can be bought or rented from any good hardware store.

    • 6

Leave the tile adhesive to dry overnight. Do not walk on the floor during this period.

    • 7

Remove the plastic spacers by pulling them out by hand.

    • 8

Apply some grout to the grouting tool and spread it across the tile forcing it into the gaps between them.

    • 9

Repeat this process for the rest of the floor. Wipe away any grout that gets on the tile as soon as possible with a damp cloth to ensure it does not dry on the tiles.
