Mural Images on Floors

Tile

• Use pieces of tile to create mural images on your floor. The mural may be something simple, such as a different color border around the tile, or more complex, such as a state seal when entering a government building. Tiles may be set as-is onto the floor to create the mural, or you can break them and create a mosaic mural design for more interest. Some tile materials that you may want to select include glass, tumble marble or scratch-resistant ceramic tile.

Premade

• You can buy a premade floor mural. One option includes having a photograph laser-etched onto black marble which is then inserted on the floor. The photograph may be any size and consist of a vacation scene or a family photo. Place the premade floor mural in the entryway for maximum impact so it is the first item guests notice when entering your home. A small guest bathroom will receive a huge impact with a couple of tile images on the floor.

Wood

• Create your own mural image on old wood floors. Several mural ideas include a family monogram or crest in the foyer; a captain wheel for a nautical-themed den; the golden brick road for a child's room; or a cityscape on the floor of a loft. Methods to apply the design include painting it on the floor, scoring and staining the wood different colors to create the design or installing the design over the existing floor.

• A mural image on the floor would bring huge impact to your business. The image may be your logo, company name or image of work your company performs. The mural may be one sole large tile resembling your business card in the entryway or an extensive wall-to-wall mural, such as a scenic road for a bike shop or a city street for a shoe shop. The image may be etched into tiles or laid out by wood, but the effect will be memorable.
