How to Hang a Cup Hook in a Popcorn Ceiling

Popcorn ceilings have come in and out of popularity over the last few decades; they are typically used to cover over any uneven ceiling surface and for acoustic purposes due to its ability to muffle sound. It may look like it would be difficult to attach fixtures like hooks or screws to a popcorn ceiling, but in fact the textured surface is about as hard as drywall and can be treated as drywall for hanging purposes.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose an anchor one size larger and a drill bit the same size as the diameter of the screw of the cup hook you plan to use.

    • 2

Drill a hole in the ceiling where you would like the cup hook installed.

    • 3

Insert the anchor into the screw hole and lightly tap it into place with the hammer. If the anchor is slightly too large for the hole, make the hole a little larger with a slightly bigger drill bit. The size drill bit needed will depend on the type and material of the anchor.

    • 4

Screw the cup hook into the anchor.
