Installation Instructions for a Kensington Laminate Floor

Kensington laminate flooring is a composite flooring designed to look like hardwood. Unlike regular hardwood, it fits together like puzzle pieces and does not need to be secured to the floor. Instead, it rests on top of padding, making removal and repairs much easier.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all furniture and existing flooring from the room. Remove any floor boards as well. You will reinstall the floor boards once the flooring is in place.

    • 2

Sweep the floor so it is completely clean and dry.

    • 3

Measure the room from wall to wall and draw the room out on graph paper. Take into account any fixtures such as cabinets and fireplaces in your design.

    • 4

Measure a piece of the Kensington laminate flooring and determine how many pieces you'll need to go from the center of the room to each wall.

    • 5

Lay your underlayment starting at the most straight end of the room. Use a utility knife to cut the underlayment so it fits 1/4 inch away from the wall.

    • 6

Start laying the flooring in the middle of the room and work outward. Once you reach a wall or a fixture, mark the pieces with your carpenter's pencil and cut them to the necessary measurements with a jigsaw.

    • 7

Reinstall the baseboards once you have finished the entire floor. Bring the furniture back into the room.
