How to Cover a Wooden Beam

While exposed wooden beams can add a rustic design to rooms, this is not always a desirable look. Sometimes a wooden beam is nothing more than an eyesore, whether because it's cracked or doesn't fit your aesthetic tastes. Wooden beams often provide the structural support for a room and removing them is not always the best solution. For this reason, you can try one of many methods of covering them.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover the wooden beams with paint so that they blend in with the ceiling. Use the same color for the ceiling and the wood beams.

    • 2

Lower the ceiling by anchoring ceiling panels on the wooden beams. Install the ceiling panels between the beams until the whole ceiling is covered.

    • 3

Hide the wooden beams with fabric. Cover the entire ceiling or just a portion. Measure the ceiling area you want to cover. Buy enough fabric to cover it. Find the center of the fabric and staple it to the ceiling. Move the fabric out to the four corners of the room, pull it tight and staple it in place.

Cover the wooden beams with tile or stone. Spread a layer of mortar over the wood beam and press the tiles or stones into place.
