How to Lay Fiberglass Without Glue

Fiberglass sheet vinyl --- also known as a "floating" floor --- can be installed as a loose-lay floor. The floor "floats" above the existing floor surface, and there is no need for an adhesive. A growing number of vinyl flooring manufacturers currently are marketing their vinyl flooring lines as glueless products, and installing these can be an enjoyable experience, even for those who do not know how to install these materials.

Instructions

    • 1

Smooth out your floor with a small chisel or even a utility knife. Bumps and cracks can reduce the quality of your vinyl floor.

    • 2

Lay out your vinyl. Let it reach past the edges and crawl up the walls.

    • 3

Cut the excess fiberglass sheet vinyl with your utility knife. Leave around 2 inches worth of sheet vinyl beyond the edge of the floor.

    • 4

Flatten the sheet across your floor with your feet or a mop. If you have no bumps or cracks, few bubbles should be visible throughout the surface.

    • 5

Flatten the fiberglass vinyl sheets against the edges of the floor. You can use the knife to cut out slits that will "fit" the sheet against the more irregular portions of your wall.

    • 6

Flatten out the sheet across your floor once again, and match it with neighboring sheets to establish a continuous, whole pattern.

    • 7

Cut the excess portions against the walls and leave a small gap between the edge of the fiberglass sheet and the wall to compensate for atmospheric changes.
