Locate the studs in the ceiling using a stud finder. Mark their locations with a pencil. If no studs exist where the ceiling meets the wall, then you can use wall studs. Locate and mark the wall studs, if necessary.
Press a corner of a sound-absorption sheet against a corner of the ceiling, and hold it there. Screw the corner of the sound-absorption sheet into a ceiling stud or wall stud. Secure the other three corners to ceiling or wall studs. Make sure the sound-absorption sheet runs adjacent to the walls. The sound-absorption sheet does not have to be pulled taut. One manufacturer recommends letting the sheet's center hang loosely about two to three inches from the ceiling.
Secure the remaining sound-absorption sheets to the ceiling until the ceiling is covered. It is unlikely that the sound-absorption sheets will align perfectly with the studs. Sound-absorption sheets can be folded or overlapped to accommodate for alignment problems.
