How to Make Concrete Floors Be More Comfortable

As more homeowners look for ways to enhance their properties without spending a ton of cash, one of the first places they start with is flooring. Houses with partially finished basements, garage areas and gaming areas often are left with unsightly concrete floors. Concrete floors are cold, hard, rough to the touch and generally unattractive. Instructions

    • 1

Prep the floor by removing any traces of wax, oil, paint, glue or any other substance adhered o the floor's surface.

    • 2

Clean the entire floor surface with a cleaner and etching solution. Spray the floor with a water hose.

    • 3

Connect the sanding disc to the hand drill and sand away bumps or glue residue left on the floor's surface.

    • 4

Locate any cracks or holes in the floor's surface. Add the specified amount of water to a pale of pre-mix concrete patch -- per the mix instructions. Fill the cracks and holes with a mixture of patch. Allow the mixture 6 - 8 hours to dry and sand it even with the floor.

    • 5

Apply a concrete primer to the floor. Spread the primer evenly across the floor with a large area surface squeegee. Allow 24 hours for the primer to dry.

    • 6

Tape the floor with lateral lines intersecting like a grid. This will give additional creativity to the floor making it appeal to have grout lines.

    • 7

Pour a sufficient amount of latex paint into a tray. Dip a roller brush into the paint allowing the brush to become saturated.

    • 8

Place the brush on the floor. Paint the floor with movement in the shape of a "W". Continue painting the floor in this method until it is covered. Allow the paint to dry.
