How to Hang Hook and Eyes in the Ceiling

Eye and cup hooks are two popular tools used to hang things like plants and fabrics from the ceiling. To ensure the hook stays in place, you must screw it into the stud. Studs are tough and dense, and therefore difficult to screw into by hand. If you are not strong enough, you can use an electric hand drill to create the hole for your eye or cup hook.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the stud finder. Move it left to right over the ceiling until you've found a stud in the area where you want to hang the hook. Ceiling joists are 16 to 24 inches apart.

    • 2

Mark the stud with a pencil to identify the spot for the hook.

    • 3

Put goggles on to protect your eyes from falling ceiling bits.

    • 4

Drill into the mark on the ceiling with an electronic hand drill with a 1.5 to 3.5 mm drill bit.

    • 5

Twist the screw end of the eye or cup hook into the ceiling with your hands.

    • 6

Twist the hook all the way to make sure it is secure. Now the hook is ready to hang an object on.
