How to Trim a Nail Into Concrete

Trimming a nail into concrete is one of the final and most important steps of a construction project. Masonry nails are specially designed to hammer directly into concrete. In fact, masonry nails can fasten wood to concrete. The trick to successfully hammering into concrete is to drill a starter hole prior to inserting the nail. Once your nail is embedded in the concrete, the thickness and design of the masonry nails are essential for fastening uncommon materials -- such as wood and concrete - -in a strong and lasting hold.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach a standard drill bit to a hand drill if you are drilling through wood into masonry. The bit should be slightly wider than the masonry nail. Drill through wood.

    • 2

Attach a masonry drill bit to a hand drill. The bit should be slightly wider than the masonry nail -- or exactly the width of the bit used in Step 1. Drill into the concrete to the length of the nail.

    • 3

Slide the hammer drive anchor into the hole. Push the anchor all the way into the concrete until the top is flush with the cement surface. Use a screwdriver head, if necessary, to assist with the push. The drive anchor is designed to expand into the concrete as the nail is inserted.

    • 4

Hammer the masonry nail into the hole. Use as few strokes as possible to avoid unnecessary damage to the concrete.
